Fountain Plaza

The area surrounding the original Lodge was the earliest to be designed.  This muddy eyesore had a very active artesian spring in its center which George Rogers, the Bellingrath's architect, corralled with Fountain Plaza.  He created the memorable runnel leading down to the Mermaid Pool to carry the spring water by gravity down to the Grotto and out into the Fowl River.
